Sir M V - Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya

Engineer's Day is observed in India on September 15 in honour of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya who was born on the day in 1860. He was the chief designer of the flood protection system designed and built for the city of Hyderabad, as well as the chief engineer responsible for the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara dam in Mysore which created the largest reservoir in Asia at that time.

Sir M V also designed and patented a system of automatic weir water floodgates that were first installed in 1903 at the Khadakvasla Reservoir near Pune. These gates were employed to raise the flood supply level of storage in the reservoir to the highest level likely to be attained by a flood without causing any damage to the dam. Based on the success of these gates, the same system was replicated at the Tigra Dam project in Gwalior and the Krishna Raja Sagara project in Karnataka.

A recipient of India's highest honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 1955, he was knighted as a Commander of the British Indian Empire by King George V before Independence.

 Engineers'  Day

Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya (1861-1962) was called a wizard in engineering. He was also called the precursor of economic planning in India. He took an interest not in engineering alone, but was capable of applying his talent to many allied matters connected with the development of the nation. His learned discourse on economic planning in India titled 'Planned Economy for India and Reconstructing India' was the first available document on the planning effort of the country and it is still held as the parent source matter for economic planners. To commemorate the birthday of Bharat Ratna Sir M Visvesvaraya, the Council of the Institution decided to observe September 15 as the Engineers' Day every year. This is celebrated throughout the country through all the Centres of the Institution with learned discourses on a theme specified by the Council every year.

Jago Engineer Jago

" Jago Engineer Jago "

( A national campaign to create awareness about engineering

discipline among the youth and the people )

" Jago Engineer Jago " is a campaign planned to be  launched so as to make the  discipline  of Engineering and engineering to regain its nobleness among the youth . It is unfortunate that despite producing largest number of engineers in India, people are not aware of what ENGINEERS do and what Engineers are supposed to be doing.

It is my personal experience that..most of the engineering students do not know who is / are the greatest engineer( s ) of  India.. Is it not S A D ! Further, even best engineering students do not / cannot recall BEST engineering marvels in India !

We feel there is need to build awareness about engineers and the work  they do. This will  motivate the new generation of youngsters to get attracted to Engineering discipline.

When this campaign will be launched ?

We are choosing - Engineers Day - as the best day to launch this campaign..

This event " Jago Engineer Jago " will be launched coinciding with Sep 15.. Engineers Day.... Which is birth day of one of the Greatest Engineer of India. Bhrath Ratna Mokshagundam Vishveshwarayya who is proudly called Sir M V..

The campaign caption for this program will be..

" I will also become a

engineer like Sir M V "

My Bhee Sir M V

Jaisa Engineer bhanoonga !

What the campaign will involve .. ?

Engineering students in the country are motivated to campaign about Engineers and Engineering on this day. Engineering students are assigned to campaign one of the wonderful educational toy ( which has got the BEST of engineering principles embedded as part of it ) at a affordable price. The educational toy will targeted to school going students. Educational toy will have relevant slogan for school going students viz., - I will be Sir M V One Day..

Engineering college students by campaigning the educational toy will ( 1 ) learn about Sir M V, ( 2 ) Help and motivate school going students of who is Sir M V and why to become Sir M V.. ( 3 ) Help the students to understand some interesting engg. principle through the educational toy that is campaigned for them.

What are the benefits of this kind of campaign ?

Young students are helped to understand of Sir M V. and motivated to emulate Sir M V ..

Engineers day will be celebrated with much more interest and involvement by the Engg. College students

People in general need to await for Engineers Day just because of educational toy that is being campaigned as part of Engineers Day..

Why  educational toys are being campaigned by the students ?

The issue here is.. how to share a message about engg. in a most effective way to most of  young students  is the issue.

Something concrete is needed to carry this message. Further, how young  people can  connect and re collect about engineering in a concrete shape, and size so that people do not forget about engineering so easily..

These are the questions what we addressed in arriving a engg. related educational toy as best medium for this.

We believe that a good engineering toy which any student can play with and understand engineering principles are selected and used as campaign toys in Jago Engineering Jago program

What are the benefits of this kind of campaign ?

Educational toys having special features will be picked up for this event..

- Toys which extreemly interesting engrossing, and engaging the young talent in learning their academic subjects

- Toys which have  some engineering principles involved in its operation

-  Toys which are low cost and high value ones

Example Toy: A example toy - Roller Scale  is given here. This  roller scale which is quite useful for school going kids in their day to day learning process.

Who and how will arrange the educational toys ?

How the value of educational toys value is collected ?

How the students will be trained for campaigning the educational toys ?

Campaign skills will be imparted to the students through proper training given to them.

You Tube videos and literature provided to the students.

A number of  YOU TUBE videos will be made available to the students to understand and practice the campaign skills . Some of the videos that will be made include:
